Into the Woods is a dark and comedic take on classic fairytales - all set to an incredible score by Stephen Sondheim.
When a Baker and his wife set off on a journey to break a witch's curse, they cross paths with a girl in a red riding hood, a maiden running from a ball, a boy who stole from Giants, a lady in a tower, and a few princes on the way. It’s an enchanting, hilarious, and musically rich exploration of what happens on the way to ‘happily ever after’ - and then what happens next.
In a comedic and intertwining series of events, everyone attempts to have their wishes granted, but the consequences of their actions may return to haunt them... with disastrous (and deadly) results.

Director’s Note:
The last two years have been tough for theatre, for the people who love theatre, and for the arts around the world. For MacMS it meant two years with limited performances and for many, two years without their musical community. So to finally put Into the Woods on stage after a marathon of covid setbacks is so exciting.
When thinking about a show to pitch for what was originally the 2021 season, I couldn't go past such a classic, beautiful, and magical show. Into the Woods is at turns ridiculous, emotional, dark, and heartfelt. It's a show with so much humour, delight, and a message that's ever more touching in the current world.
The cast of Into the Woods are a truly talented, enthusiastic, and hilarious group of people who have been such a blast to work with. Rehearsing with them has been a delight, and I can't wait to watch them take to the stage every night and bring the show to life.
I need to thank Aiden for putting together an amazing band (and the band for being amazing), Renae and Soph for making everyone sound so wonderful, Ash and Erin for all their hard work and long hours making sure tech ran smoothly, Michael and Camryn for the blood, sweat, and tears that went into the trees, and Domi and Piarin for keeping everything running behind the scenes. Also, of course, my Assistant Director Megan - who kept me sane for the countless hours we spent planning, plotting, and preparing for this wonderful show.
